Set household expectations before the doorbell
Give the family a start window, likely duration and the need for a quiet work area. Ask visitors to come later when practical. Nominate an adult for children, pets, deliveries and door access so the person supporting the patient does not repeatedly leave the procedure.
Prepare only the current clinical documents and sealed supplies. Remove food, toys and unrelated objects from the surface. A clean zone is temporary and proportionate; the whole home does not need to resemble a ward.

Control attendance through patient consent
At arrival, ask the patient who may remain for the assessment, procedure and teaching. These may be different people. A relative who opened the door or pays for care does not automatically have permission to observe. Provide private time when requested and safe.
Explain that interruptions stop safety checks. Silence phones, pause visits and keep pets out. Children should not handle supplies, translate sensitive decisions or assist with moving the patient. Arrange suitable language support and enough adults for safe transfers.

Reopen the family space safely
Before people return, account for sharps, medicines, specimens, waste, records and reusable equipment. Secure tubing and devices against pulling. Clean the working surface according to the care plan and wash hands before ordinary household activity resumes.
Invite agreed family members back for concise teaching, warning signs and next actions. Use demonstration and return demonstration away from distractions. Share only information the patient has authorised, then record who owns supplies, observations and the next due task.
